So saddened to hear about Neal's passing.  I have fond memories of him, and how he used to make me laugh and always had a kind word to say. He will be missed.

Neal was a special guy. With a one of the biggest hearts I have known. So many things I admired about Neal. We were drawn together mostly by team sport and I am so grateful for that, otherwise I am not sure I would have had the opportunity to get to know him like I did.

The story I have told about Neal repeatedly all my life is the one that involved Scott Davis, our classmate that battled brain cancer during his high school days and beyond. One day Neal and I were walking down the hall at BHS and Scott was coming down the inside stairs back by the old gym. Scott tripped and fell down the last few stairs and his books went everywhere. Unfortunately some kids started to laugh at the situation, but for Neal he never hesitated. He immediately went to help pick up books and then proceeded, in only Neal's way, to teach a lesson to the kids laughing at the situation.  All this was just Neal's heart.

We were often seat mates on the long road trips home from Lubbock or Levelland. I valued his opinion so much back then. The couple of reunions I have attended Neal and I seem to pick back up like we were back on the bus, but life gave us new stories and things to talk about. We would promise to keep up and we both fell short on that committment.

So very fortunate that Neal was a friend. I will miss him.
